Mission Statement

The mission of the Apostolate of St. Jerome is to restore celibacy and virginity to their rightful place of esteem in the Catholic Church. In the face of an onslaught of sexual sin inside and outside the Church, many are responding to this crisis with erroneous teachings about sex that are alien to the Catholic faith. While the Church’s infallible doctrines are as sound as ever, individual bishops, priests, lay leaders, and theologians can err and often do. As a result Catholics are being inundated these days with a message about sex that is so incoherent and illogical that rational people feel justified in rejecting Catholic morality. Catholics have largely abandoned our sexual teachings, and the world is in even worse shape. At the same time, celibacy is increasingly under attack from theologians and other lay people who don't live the true Catholic morality themselves.  To counter this, we propose and defend a new sexual theology that puts emphasis where it belongs—on celibacy and virginity—not on sex and marriage like today’s novel, erroneous theologies. We show that our theology is more consistent with the received Faith, and better equipped to confront a culture hostile to God’s sexual morals. Its central tenet is that God created Adam and Eve to live virginity, and they copulated only after the Fall once sex came about as a result of sin. We complement this with a total vision of human sexuality, and promote a world where the vast majority of people live celibacy like Jesus and the Virgin Mary. We draw from Scripture, Church Fathers, and magisterial texts to convince Catholics and hopefully all Christians to re-embrace the truth about sex that was revealed to Israel, taught by Jesus and His apostles, and kindled by the saints in every age.
